SCOPE AND CONTENT
The Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant Collection consists of two volumes, 1st edition, 1885, personally signed by Ulysses S. Grant. Grant began his autobiographical work in 1884 and completed the manuscript in eleven months; he died one week after the work was completed.
The memoirs tell the story of his boyhood days in Ohio and of his graduation from West Point. Also included are information about the military campaigns in the West and Mexico. During the War Between the States, he rose to fame as leader of the Union Armies.
