Early Carters on the Clinch River
by W. Dale Carter, copyright 2006, Kingsport, TN
This manuscript collection contains exhaustive research which proves that the early Carters that settled on the waters of Clinch River are Thomas, Dale, John, Joseph and Norris. All were sons of Peter Carter of Fauquier County, Virginia. Thomas lived in Scott County until his death on 5 October 1803. Dale, the twin brother to Thomas, was murdered by the Indians at Fort Blackmore in October 1774. John Carter moved from Scott County to Sumner County, Tennessee and died there in 1803. Joseph Carter lived in Rye Cove until his death 16 August 1808. Norris Carter lived on the Clinch River until his death 13 August 1816.
Loyal Company Land Surveys, 26 March 1774
In addition to surveys and other documents, Mr. Carter has made a very thorough research of the Thomas Carter prayer book as shown below.
