SCOPE AND CONTENT
The Hunt Historical Library Collection is a massive historical and genealogical collection comprised of (1) general surname files and (2) special subject files.  As a whole, the collection pertains to various surnames and special subjects across the U.S. and various countries. Items were collected by Shelia Steele Hunt who conducted historical and genealogical research across the U.S. on both a personal and professional basis over a period of more than 35 years. Currently on loan to the Archives and History Division, this collection is representative of only a small portion of a much larger collection privately owned and maintained by Shelia Steele Hunt, P.O. Box 3826, Kingsport, TN.  

The surname files contain genealogically noteworthy items such as family histories, obituaries, remembrance cards, notes, pedigree charts, family group sheets, diaries, copies from published and non-published works, photographs, correspondence, pending case studies, census records and more. The surname files often contain, but are not limited to, copies of court documents such as wills, marriages, deeds, estate settlements, chancery suits, Supreme Court cases, Superior Court cases, &c.

The special subject files contain information pertaining to, but not limited to, subjects such as places, businesses, churches, organizations, lineage groups, cemeteries, archival repositories, Native American studies, Melungeon studies, Scots-Irish research, early U.S. History, European history, royalty, genealogy course studies, self-help guides, forms, and much more.
