SCOPE AND CONTENT
This part of the Mary Winona Payne collection consists of 24 photographs that came from the former residence of Mary Winona Payne of Johnson City, Washington Co., TN. Subjects in photographs are generally unknown.
BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Mary Winona Payne (1908-2001) was the daughter of Tilla Murr and Belvin Wheeler Payne of Greene Co., TN. Wheeler was born and married in Sullivan Co., TN. Belvin Wheeler Payne and Tilla Murr had the following children: 1-Sarah Justine Payne married William Roy "Willie" Ledbetter. 2-Mary Winona Payne was not married; amateur genealogist. 3-Dessie Maude Payne was a retired Johnson City schoolteacher from Science Hill. She died at age 93 about 2-1/2 yrs ago. She set up the library at Munsey Memorial Church in Johnson City, Tennessee.
